The Level 1 Qualification in Sports Leadership is a nationally recognised qualification that enables successful learners to assist in leading purposeful and enjoyable sport/physical activity, under direct supervision.

Target audience

The programme is designed to support young people to develop leadership skills via sports and physical activity. It’s especially well-suited for individuals who might feel disengaged from the traditional curriculum, offering them practical, engaging ways to learn and lead.

Programme overview

Learners will achieve the following units,

  • Unit 1 – Establishing leadership skills

    • Understanding the skills and behaviours needed to lead

    • Recognising leadership roles and responsibilities

    • Developing personal leadership

  • Unit 2 – Plan, assist in leading, and review sport/activity

    • Planning appropriate sports sessions

    • Assisting in delivery

    • Reflecting on your role in leading activities

Core competencies are also gained in communication, teamwork, motivation, goal-setting, coaching principles, and practical session planning.

Participants can gain real-world experience—leading events in schools or communities, volunteering at local sports clubs, supporting further education applications, volunteering at high-profile competitions or even aiding personal rehabilitation journeys.
